Areas of need
This area has organised services into sections. Each section is based on a child or young person’s area of need. This helps families find the right support more easily. The main areas of need are communication and interaction, cognition and learning, social, emotional and mental health, and sensory and physical needs.
Communication and interaction (CI)
Some children and young people find it hard to communicate with others. This may mean they have difficulty speaking, understanding what people say, or using social rules like taking turns in conversation. This can affect how they connect with other people and includes speech and language difficulties as well as conditions like Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).
Cognition and learning (CL)
Some children and young people have learning difficulties. These can be mild (MLD), severe (SLD), very complex (PMLD). or specific learning difficulties including dyselxia and dyspraxia (SpLD). Learning difficulties can affect reading, writing, numbers, coordination, or memory.
Social, emotional and mental health (SEMH)
Some children and young people struggle with their feelings or behaviour. They may feel worried, sad, angry, or overwhelmed. This can show in different ways, such as becoming quiet, acting out, or finding it hard to cope at school or home. Some may experience anxiety, low mood, or problems with attention. It includes conditions like anxiety, depression, attachment disorders, and ADHD-related emotional difficulties.
Sensory and physical Needs
Some children and young people have sensory needs inlcuding vision (VI) /hearing (HI) difficulties, or both (MSI). Some children and young people have physical disabilities (PD)..They may need support to move, take part in activities, or use equipment to help them.
