We are pleased to share that Hull's SEND Reform Plan is progressing to the next stage and Hull City Council and the NHS will shortly be recruiting for new jobs.
These roles will help make schools more inclusive and supportive for children and young people with SEND. New job opportunities will be advertised during the autumn term.
One of the new roles will be part of Hull City Council's Voice and Influence team. This person will help make sure that the views and experiences of children and young people with SEND are listened to when the plan is put into action.
When creating the plan, there were lots of things we had to include. Now we need to focus on making sure it works well in practice. Hull's Parent Carer Forum (PCF) will play an important part in this work. On Friday 7 August, Hull City Council staff met with PCF leaders to agree the next steps.
We have planned a series of events for parent carers between Monday 5 and Tuesday 13 October. At these events, parents and carers will be able to share their experiences of the SEND system and tell us what improvements matter most to them. Details of the events and registration information will be shared in the coming weeks.
What parents and carers tell us will help shape how we put the SEND Reform Plan into practice. We will also use feedback from surveys that many parents and carers have already completed.
Schools will be encouraged to listen to parents and carers too. They may do this through surveys, meetings, or focus groups. This will help schools create their own Inclusion Strategies before the government's deadline of Thursday 31 December.
