An update for parents and carers on SEND in Hull
On 3 July, schools and education leaders from across Hull met to talk about how we can improve support for children and young people with SEND.
The meeting was organised by the Hull Learning Partnership, which is a group of schools and education services in Hull that work together to help children and young people learn, achieve and do well.
The Government wants to improve the way children with SEND are supported. The aim is for more children to get the right help in their local school, close to home, when this is the best place for them.
These changes will take several years, but Hull is starting to plan now.
A very important part of this work is listening to children, young people and their families. Parents and carers will help shape how support is improved in the future. Thank you to those who took the time to feedback to us about their experiences in the recent online consultation.
Hull is also looking to bring in more SEND specialists. These experts will work with schools and other professionals to help children get the support they need.
This builds on work that is already happening in Hull, where special schools, mainstream schools and health professionals work together to share skills and knowledge.
We are proud of the progress being made and are excited about the future. By working together, we can help make sure that children and young people with SEND get the right support, at the right time, and as close to home as possible.
