Victoria Dock Primary School

In Provision 1 (P1), we aim to offer a holistic approach to learning which is underpinned by the Springboard Curriculum (a framework for integrating therapy and education). Each half term, the children will access a new topic and activity sessions will be linked to this throughout the day.

Each child has an individual timetable as each child is on their own unique learning journey. Children access various curriculum subjects in P1 depending on their individual level of development. Initially, the focus is to engage children in learning through developing the three Prime Areas of the Early Years Curriculum and then to incorporate the Specific Areas to build essential lifelong skill. The environment has been carefully created with this in mind and aims to promote exploratory learning and develop independence skills.

All learning is delivered through sensory approaches which ensures that all pupils can engage with and learn from exciting learning opportunities.

The staff’s role within learning is to provide each pupil with opportunities for sensorimotor integration, to build positive relationships with each pupil, to reduce barriers to learning and to model and provide opportunities for play. Academic progress and achievement are encouraged alongside this, to achieve full potential.

Children’s progress is tracked using the Springboard Curriculum and/or PIVATS depending upon individual levels of development. Some children will also have an Engagement Profile to give a more rounded view of their engagement and progress.

In P1, pupils have opportunities embedded throughout the day to develop specific outcomes identified in their individual EHCPs. We use advised strategies tailored to meet the individual learning needs and therefore reduce barriers to learning.
