Bricknell Primary School

Bricknell Primary School became the first of its kind in the city to launch new specialist resource provision. Offering 10 pupils with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), whose needs cannot be met in mainstream school alone, the opportunity to learn among their peers.

The school, in partnership with Northcott Special School, has created specially adapted alternative classrooms. This allows children the opportunity to access mainstream learning with the added benefit of resource base that provides extra support around the needs of each individual child.

It has been resounding success and parents have praised the school for providing the extra support.

This provision is now extended to children across the city, so we take children from all areas.

The new provisions were made possible thanks to more than £1m worth of funding over three years awarded to Hull City Council from the Department for Education.

Due to its success, plans are now in place later this year to create more places and improve facilities across mainstream schools in Hull. This will benefit pupils with special educational needs or disabilities.
