School Places for Children with SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities)
- Most children with SEND go to regular schools or colleges.
If your child has an EHC plan (Education, Health and Care plan)
- You can ask for a place at a special school only if your child has an EHC plan
- If you think your child needs a special school and they have an EHC plan, talk to their SEND caseworker
If your child does NOT have an EHC plan
- You should apply for a school the normal way
- Your child will need an EHC needs assessment to see what kind of help they need and if they should go to a special school
- If the assessment has started, you still need to apply online for a school or college
- By week 16, the council will decide if your child will get an EHC plan
- By week 20, you will get the final EHC plam
- If you get a draft EHC plan, the council will talk to you about which schools you like. You can then ask for a place at a special school
